Search the Internet and you’ll find several videos and forum threads about diagnosing and fixing a noisy compensator on a Harley-Davidson* motorcycle.

The compensator acts as a shock absorber to prevent engine vibration from affecting the transmission. It can wear over time, leading to a knocking or ticking noise. Replacing a worn compensator easily costs a couple hundred dollars, depending on the bike.

Choose the right oil
